Description
Kismat Chepang, the son of Bal Bahadur Chepang and Thammaya Chepang, entered the world in 2014 AD in Gandaki Bhulinchoak Gurkha, the epicenter of April earthquake 2015, situated in the hills outside the Kathmandu Valley. Coming into the impoverished Chepang community, known as one of the poorest indigenous groups in Nepal, Kismat's family has faced considerable challenges.
Tragedy struck Kismat's family two years ago when his father passed away while he was mining rocks . He was living with his grandparents and mother. His guardian was illiterate. His mother is physically disabled. After the death of his father, they faced a big problem feeding themselves.
Kismat was brought to Hopeful Home Orphanage by Dal Bahadur Chepang who works as an activities manager in the orphanage. Despite his challenging background, Kismat exudes a positive attitude. He finds joy living in the orphanage, playing drum and flutes, listening to Nepali songs, happy with enough eating. Known for his infectious smile, Kismat looks forward to making fun with his friends. Currently enrolled in grade 2 at United Preparatory English Boarding School, he faced a late start in his education journey, making progress slowly. Despite the difficulties, he remains determined to overcome challenges and build a brighter future for himself.
