Please join us in celebrating the festive Tibetan holiday of Losar. Losar is one of the most important festivals celebrated in Nepal. 'Lo' means year or age, and 'Sar' means new or fresh. So the full meaning of Losar is a new year or the beginning of a new era!
The Central Oregon Losar Sherpa New Year's celebration will be held on Thursday, February 20th between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm. The event will be held at the nationally featured High Camp Taproom in Sisters.
The evening will include:
- Live music and a social hour beginning at about 5:00 pm
- New Years Ceremony beginning at about 5:30
- Brief presentations about Ten Friends and achievements during the past year beginning about 6:00
- A raffle and live and silent auctions
Food and beverages will include:
- Local craft beers, wine, ciders and soft drinks (Two free drinks)
- Himalayan Appetizers
- Main courses featuring a choice of Himalayan dishes (served at about 6:30)
- Dessert
We hope you can join the celebration and take this opportunity to meet other Central Oregon individuals who share an interest in Nepal and making this world a better place.
The event is also a Fund Raiser for Ten Friends with $40 (tax deductible) of your $75 attendance fee going towards supporting projects and programs being conducted by Ten Friends in the Tilahi Community. The focus is on the people who are part of the Musahar Caste. Representing the bottom of the Nepal caste system, they are treated as ‘untouchables’ and suffer from significant discrimination resulting in extreme poverty with no opportunities to improve their quality of life and standard of living.
