Description
Roman Chepang, the son of Dipak Chepang and Hitmaya Chepang, entered the world in 2005 AD in Benighta Dhading, situated in the hills outside the Kathmandu Valley. Hailing from the impoverished Chepang community, known as one of the poorest indigenous groups in Nepal, Roman's family has faced considerable challenges.
Tragedy struck Roman's family eight years ago when his father passed away by a massive earthquake in 2015. With seven members in the family, including parents, three sisters, and two brothers, the situation worsened as his mother eloped with another man. Roman's stepfather treated him poorly, and his two elder sisters were married off in their teenage years.Roman, along with his younger sister Bhumashwori, was referred to Hopeful Home Orphanage by the Benighat municipality officer, seeking a better life and opportunities for them.
Since 2016 AD, Roman has been residing in the orphanage. Despite his challenging background, Roman exudes positivity. He finds joy in playing soccer, listening to Nepali music, and favoring the color yellow. Known for his infectious smile, Roman looks forward to Deepawali, the festival of lights and flowers, where he receives personal gifts and gets a chance to celebrate Halloween.
Currently enrolled in grade 7 at United Preparatory English Boarding School, Roman faced a late start in his education journey, making progress slowly. Despite the difficulties, he remains determined to overcome challenges and build a brighter future for himself.
